A Sea of Enchantment
A one-hour program of sea chanteys and stories of the sea. Audiences, espeically ages 4 to adult, will enjoy the enchanting world of the sea through stories and song. Some stories invite the listener on a journey to explore why the tides ebb and flow, why the sea is salty, or to hear how pirates once roamed the Gulf of Maine and buried treasure on the Isles of Shoals. Other stories lead one on imaginary adventures encompassing sea stories from China and other cultures around the world.

In the 1700s and 1800s, ships' crews sung work songs called chanteys. A chantyeman would lead the crews in singing as they worked the decks and down below. These chanteys give the audience a glimpse into the life of these sailor men and the work they had to do. As the audience is led through the songs by the "chanteyman", they will be transported back to these times aboard the sailing ships.

The audience is invited to participate in some of the stories and in all of the chanteys.

Debra draws from her vast experience educating people of all ages about the sea and other aspects of the natural world to immerse her audience in the wonders of the real and imaginary in her workshops and performances.

Using her BA in Biology and MS in Environmental Studies, Debra encourages others to explore the natural world and its influence on their cultural heritage.
